A little bit about Austin in their own words…

On a cross-continent bike ride in 2017, I fell in love with cycling. It was my first time riding something other than a child-size BMX or a hand-me-down hybrid that was older than me. It wasn’t anything fancy, but by the end of the summer, it was an extension of me. I rode with 25 young adults raising money so no one has to face cancer alone. In Glacier National Park, after climbing the famous “Going to the Sun” road, I realized I had to find a way to keep doing this. I started guiding trips around the Canadian Rockies and Charlevoix, QC. I did bike tours around northern California, Southern Italy, and Greece. I am back in a “real” job now, but I adore touring and cycling and love introducing new people to biking beyond commuting.

Why did you decide to become a Warmshowers Global Ambassador?

Warmshowers is such a great platform for touring cyclists and makes bike travel more accessible – I want to contribute to that impact.

My guilty pleasure is my Brompton. In our first summer together, I also had a folding trailer that I could put my checked luggage on. I would bike to and from the airports in the places where I was travelling with 150 pounds of luggage on the bike, trailer, and my back. One of the legs was a train ride from Paris to London, and the trains were on strike, so I caught a Train to Calais instead, rode the ferry, and then biked 100 miles from Dover to London (took the scenic route) with all that luggage. What a day!
